| Abstract |
Taking into consideration tendencies of «Russian Byronism’s» development the article discovers Byronic motives and traditions of G. G. Byron in poems by I. I. Kozlov (1779–1840), written in the 1820-s. It gives detailed analysis of the parallel between G. G. Byron’s «Giaour» and I. I. Kozlov’s «The Monk», and to prove Byron’s influence it involves the materials of Russian literary critics of the 1820–1830-s (P. A. Vyazemskiy, A. D. Ulybyshev, V. G. Belinskiy, etc.), comments of contemporaries (A. S. Pushkin, E. A. Baratynskiy, etc.). The article considers separately the influence of Byron’s «Giaour» on the plot of I. I. Kozlov’s poem «The Mad Woman», which caused ambiguous reaction in contemporary literary circles. |
